“Quantum of Solace” trailer

The new James Bond film Quantum of Solace (I guess Ounce of Comfort doesn’t quite have the same ring) has a teaser trailer, and it gives me an excuse to post a piece I did for the Current back when Casino Royale came out — it accompanied an article that reviewed every single Bond theme, from good to Cornell. I don’t think it’s online, or I’d link to it. It’s pretty fun.

As for Quantum, it looks at least as good as Casino was — but I still can’t shake the feeling that all they’re doing is a glossier, slightly dumber version of the Bourne movies. (Watch Judi Dench in the trailer below — it almost sounds like she says “Find Bourne” instead of “Find Bond.”) But I like the new direction the Bond movies are going in, and they still boast the most, um, talented actresses working today. Seriously, James Bond had Eva Green. Jason Bourne got to hang out with … Joan Allen. Well played, old chap!
